Cleaning Products: the facts

Children take in more food and air for their body weight and are therefore more vulnerable to environmental toxins. Detergents, bleaches and disinfectants often contain quite toxic ingredients.

What can I do?

1. Buy environmentally responsible products
See the yellow box below.

2. Use natural cleaning products.
Start using the natural cleaning products that were used before the introduction of chemical detergents, such as Borax, Bi-Carbonate of soda, Vinegar, Salt, Lemon and Boiling Water....

Click here for instructions on how to use these cleaning products.

How can I do it?

Environmentally responsible cleaning products are available by mail order to Public Sector Employees from Simply Organic

ECOZONE a wide range of environmentally friendly, bio-degradable household cleaning products.

Special offers are available on alternatives to washing powder such as Ecoballs from Eco-Zone

Smart thinking

EcoBalls are hypo-allergenic and use ionized oxygen to remove dirt molecules from cloth.

Winner of the Hong Kong enterprise award in 1996, the Ecoball costs about 3p per wash (saving users £165+ per set), at 5 washes a week they last over 3 years, they save water as you do not need a second rinse cycle to remove the detergent, they are not tested on animals and they minimize colour fading.

They also extend the life of your washing machine as there is no chemical or detergent buildup.
