At Home 12 - The Directory Recycling Project

What happens to telephone directories at the end of each year?

A few years ago, virtually all used telephone directories were sent to landfill or burned….

What can I do?

The Directory Recycling Project aims to increase the numbers of Phone Books and Yellow Pages recycled throughout the UK. The Project works in partnership with local authorities, recyclers, community networks and other interested parties to improve and promote opportunities for directory recycling.

If you have a query about directory recycling please ring 0800 783 1592 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Where is my nearest recycling center?

You can use this part of the Directory Recycling Project website to see if there are local recycling facilities.

Smart thinking

Smart recycling idea.
MP's Alan Whitehead and Mark Oaten introduced a 'Reuse of White Goods' act. The plan was to give all Fridges a 'residual value' so that they wherever they were, some one would have a good reason to take the old fridges to a disassembly point for recycling.

This way, the CFC's (ozone depleting gases) would be disposed of safely. The theory behind it was this - if all rubbish has a value, then it will never get left anywhere, it will always end up where we want it to end up.

Unfortunately, the bill ran out of time and was not adopted in the legislation for the next year of parliament…
