While Travelling 3 - Reducing Emissions
saving fuelEmissions: the facts

One third of all pollution is from a journey
is created during the first few minutes
of starting an engine.

61% of all car journeys are less than 5 miles

The British Army has ordered thousands of the 'Emission Master' (see yellow box below) for their vehicles to reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions.

What can I do?

Buy an engine management unit.
These can be of the strap on variety, or can be hard-wired into your fuel line (more efficient). Most cost around £50 /70.

Service your car regularly
Keep your car in good condition: over 90% of badly polluting vehicles can be retuned in 15 minutes. Old, dirty oil and clogged filters are a sure way to rob your engine of efficiency.

How can I do it?

Buy an engine management system
You can get a special saving on the 'Emissions Master' - a fuel management system that saves 15% on your fuel bill and reduces emissions by up to 60% if you mention that you are Publicsector.org member.

100,000 of these units have been ordered by the British Army.

Smart thinking

A typical engine management system will pay for itself with in a year of average use, as well as reducing emissions.
